The German Colony is a suburb of Jerusalem. The area was first settled in 1873 by members of the Templar sect from Württemberg, Germany. They lived there until the Second World War, when they were deported by the British Mandatory government as enemy citizens.

While the British certainly have a lot to answer for concerning this area of the world, the Templars (who possibly should be called Templers) demonstrated their support for the Nazis, with whom Britain was at war, and so the deportation was understandable.

The house reminds me of some built by the Germans who came here at about the same time. Some of them were also confined during the war. That was understandable too as they had isolated themselves. Many of them did not speak English and there were still children going to school in the 60’s who spoke no English.
