Miriam, I hope you were not too disappointed. My beloved B and I adore the place and it features strongly in several of my as yet unpublished works.
It can be a frustration and driving there is a huge challenge! High-speed anarchy. We stayed on the next lake over, Como, and loved it. We also do the Aosta Valley and spent a long Christmas break in Rome. We walked ourselves silly and B developed a wide range of symptoms close to social anxiety! The Metro in particular had me on high alert and her sheltering behind me. An incident there provided a small but rich seam of material for the book I set there called Daniel’s Pyramid. A pickpocket gang was on the train and were targeting tourists. They got many but not us, they got pain from me and B dropped her tail like a frightened Gecko. It’s grown back now and we still love Rome.
