Who is this woman?

Jun 12, 2013 12:24 pm

I’m going to ask you to use your imaginations. We all have them. (I used to think I didn’t have one and didn’t know how to be creative, but I was wrong.)

Here is a photograph of a woman:

MysteryWoman

(It’s actually a photograph of a photograph. You can see the photographer reflected in it.)

What do you think this woman is like? What does she do or say or eat for breakfast? No, never mind the last one. Please write anything that comes to mind in the comments.

I will reveal all in my next post. For now, I’ll just say that this isn’t someone close to me and nothing you say will distress me.

  1. She’s a mother, with several children – all have snot running from their noses and no shoes to their feet but she loves them. Her hands are red raw from taking in washing to feed them. And she dreams of someone making her a cup of tea.

  2. “I have something to tell you,” she said. She turned her head towards me but looked up to the tall man that was standing behind me. She smiled and her mouth twisted in the familiar way. Her sense of humor had never left her, all through the dark years. I knew what she was going to say. I didn’t want to hear it. The man behind me went and stood next to her, putting his arm around her shoulder. She smiled at him, and then at me. Suddenly I was calm. Maybe it would be ok. She seemed so happy. Maybe it wouldn’t be a bad thing that my mother was getting married.

  3. She’s a local librarian who loves children but has none of her own. The library is her whole life so how will she cope when she hears that it’s losing down?

  5. My imagination ran away with this one… She’s a ‘simple’ housewife, by all appearances. Her kids (all five of them) love her but her neighbours are suspicious of her because her husband left and she’s been single for a long time. How does she earn a living? Only one knows the truth. In the dead of night she carries out backstreet abortions for women who have nowhere else to turn. Her eldest daughter watches the other four kids and the neighbour who knows her secret is her daughter’s friend…

  7. she is definitely not a modern woman but a woman of the forties who takes pride in her home and family…she has her necklace which she always wears when company arrives…she is far more intelligent than most of the women she knows and there are times when she is sorry she never became a career woman…she definitely could be…and she is a creature of habit…soft spoken but with a will of iron
